SCECGS Redlands commenced sailing as part of the Games programme in October 1989. An initial squad of 28 seniors and 24 juniors travelled to Pittwater to train in Puffin Pacer dinghies and Elliott 5.9 keelboats. In 2000, the school entered the long-standing Combined High Schools regatta for the first time, our two teams finishing as Australian Champions and Runners-up! By 2001 six Puffin Pacers had been purchased to boost race training. A rapid growth in numbers required a new approach and training squads were established at the Northside Sailing School at Middle Harbour, Dinghy Solutions at the Woollahra Sailing Club and a J24 squad at the Pacific Sailing School in Rushcutters Bay. For the past 6 years the school has also participated in the NSW Teams Racing Championships. The acquisition in late 2001 of a sailing base in Mosman Bay, through a relationship with the Sydney Amateur Sailing Club, enabled the programme to expand further. Proving again our world-leading status, 2001 also saw the addition of a fleet of high-performance 29er skiffs to cater for our increasingly skilled and enthusiastic senior sailors. Our students have competed with distinction at club level and in the annual Combined High Schools Championships. In July 2003, three crews travelled to the USA to compete in the prestigious Semana Nautica and Junior Olympics Regattas. In early 2003 the school committed to the International Cadet class a recognised youth training class. We hav since purchased 12 boats and commencing a training programme to prepare a team for the annual National Championships.
